The purpose of this thesis is to study the impact of the funding program HORIZON 2020 (H2020) on the Greek research system. H2020 was a key funding instrument of the European Union for research and innovation activities during the 2014–2020 period. Specifically, the thesis focuses on mapping the participation of Greek research institutions in the program and examining how it has influenced research activity in the country. The study does not cover the impact of other R&D initiatives funded by European resources, such as those implemented under the Smart Specialisation Strategy within the framework of cohesion policy.
