This thesis examines the context of global health financing, focusing on the main actors
that determine it, both from the financing side and from the design and implementation
side of the interventions that take place. It begins by presenting the framework of global
health governance and how it has evolved into its current form. Then, the financing of
health systems globally is examined, as well as the role of the development assistance
for health and the evolution of the epidemiological patterns in low-income and lower-
middle income countries. It also presents the major donors to global health and the main
channels for the diffusion of the development assistance for health, while examining
the priorities set by the international community, as reflected in the funding received by
the various areas of health interventions. Finally, the critique of the current system of
global health financing is analysed, as well as the suggestions that have arisen for its
improvement.
