Abstract
Nowadays, more than 90 million couples face some kind of conception problem. So, they decide to resort to the application of medically assisted reproduction methods in order to succeed in having a child. The rapid development of science in the field of medically assisted reproduction during the recent years has enabled them to choose from a wide range of methods in order to find the best and most effective method for them to reach their goal. The aim of this paper is to analyze the various methods of medically assisted reproduction, as well as the legal, economic and ethical aspects of this process. More specifically, the methods of medically assisted reproduction, the history and the legal framework of the process, as it has been developed in Greece up to the present day, are presented in detail. In addition, the cost of the methods both in our country and in other European countries such as France, Germany and the United Kingdom and the coverage by the insurance funds of our country are investigated, while the average cost of medically assisted reproduction in countries such as the Netherlands, Italy, Poland, Austria, Turkey, Russia, etc. are also presented. Finally, there is a reference of IVF statistics for the years 2013-2015 and 2018-2019 and a comparison with the GDP, while the social and ethical issues arising in the context of medically assisted reproduction are explored
