Health-related quality of life in patients with breast cancer

Abstract
Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women worldwide, as well as in Greece. The experience of breast cancer symptoms varies considerably among patients and is a result of the disease or its treatments, as it not only disrupts the patients’ physical, but also their psychological health, affecting their quality of life. Τhe purpose of this study is to investigate the health-related quality of life of breast cancer patients. In particular, the study will be conducted in conjunction with a review of quality of life measurement tools that are applied in the health care field. The study and the correlation of these tools will be based on the social and demographic characteristics of the sample. The first and general part of the paper, which is the literature one, describes in detail breast cancer and its consequences, as well as the concept of health-related quality of life. The second and specific part of the paper, which is the research one, describes in detail the statistical analysis of the questionnaires that have been answered. The study took place between May 2022 and June 2022 in the EOPYY Pharmacy of Ampelokipi, which serves cancer patients on a daily basis. The sample consists of 136 patients diagnosed with breast cancer and currently undergoing treatment. The survey was conducted by completing an anonymous questionnaire, which included demographic and personal information questions, patient medical history information, the EQ-5D-3L questionnaire, and the QLQ-C30 questionnaire. Completion of the questionnaires was voluntary and after the patients’ consent. The statistical program STATA Version 13 was used for statistical analysis of the sample.
