This thesis deals with the security of the maritime supply chain which is compromised both by intentional illegal actions or behaviors that lead to damage and by inadvertent omissions and errors or random events, which however create the same result. In Part One, the role of piracy, terrorism and the effects of the 2022 Russo-Ukrainian war on the security of the global maritime supply chain were studied, as well as the organizations created to deal with the first two and the actions of NATO mainly, to deal with the third .
In the Second Part, the impact of maritime accidents and risks in maritime transport on the safety of the maritime supply chain was studied, as were the most important international organizations for safety at sea. Special mention is also made of the global maritime risk and safety system
The data of the work was drawn and studied from printed and electronic books, from official websites of international organizations, EU website as well as from simple websites.
From the study it emerged that piracy, terrorism, war as well as human errors and omissions permanently and decisively affect the security of the maritime supply chain.
It is concluded that there is great potential for improvement in the field of security as long as further international cooperation, resource allocation, research, red tape reduction and the creation of a single international think tank for this purpose are achieved.
