In the framework of the energy improvement and reduction of the energy footprint regulations for shipping, it is necessary to carry out energy inspections. This thesis sought to study all aspects of a ship energy audit.
Design / methodology / approach: At first the legislation, that defines the relationships energy consumption and energy audit, is determinated. Moreover, the ways and the means, with which can the process of energy at a ship and the improvement stages be supervened, have been investigated. In the end has been thoroughly investigated the aim of energy audit, the steps of implementation and how an energy report is written.
Findings: It was found that the energy efficiency of a ship can be optimized through systematic recording and processing of the measurements/ elements related to the energy consumption of the installed energy systems of the ship. An important role is also played by the organization’s policy to carry out frequent energy audits and install systems that will make their work easier and more efficient. Through a well-organized energy inspection, it becomes possible to identify the energy systems that need energy interventions and even allows the prioritization of energy interventions according to technical-economic criteria, contributing decisively to the success of an Energy Management System.
Originality / value: In the context of this thesis, an attempt was made to gather and analyze the constituent elements of the energy inspection of ships, systematically gathering and classifying the main pillars on which the whole process is based in all stages it includes.
Keywords: Energy, energy management, energy consumption, energy management standards, ships energy audit.
