School teachers’ opinions about the effect of leadership styles at school culture, for the advancement and the application of innovative educational programs
Leadership and the theories developed around it find practical application in all organizations. Since every school is considered as an organization, these theories are also directly relevant to the field of education, which has to keep up with the rapid developments and changes in the society we live in. In this research, in which 153 primary school teachers participated, an attempt will be made to present their views on the leadership styles that principals choose to apply in contemporary Greek schools. The three main leadership styles examined in the research are the transformational leadership style, the transactional and finally the passive leadership style, while a reference is made to the outcome of leadership. Also, an attempt will be made to correlate the leadership styles with the development of school culture in the organization, as it has been shown that plays an important role in the proper functioning of a school unit. Another topic that is examined in this paper is the part of innovation and more specifically the implementation of innovative programs in primary schools, both at the national and European level. The third strand of the research is the one that examines innovation, and more specifically explores how the leadership style that a principal chooses to apply in a school unit enhances the promotion of innovative programs in this direction.
