This thesis examines in depth the definitions of both the Smart City and the Circular Economy and the connection between them as well as the challenges they have to face. Smart city is the desired outcome when the goals and objectives of the Circular Economy are achieved. In the context of understanding and analysis of the above concepts, the Thesis begins by quoting the concept of the Circular Economy and then that of the Smart City, identifying the main characteristics that they consist of. Then, through a literature review, the Thesis aims to investigate how the Circular Economy can contribute to upgrading conventional cities to Smart cities while simultaneously saving resources in Greece. Examples of application at national and international level are mentioned. The Circular Economy can be a key element for a qualitative leap towards development transformation. In conclusion, it is proven that smart cities, with their proper cooperation to the goals of the Circular Economy, can improve modern life in Greek Cities.
