After 2000, a global economic crisis erupted, beginning in the United States and
spreading rapidly to the rest of the world, with bloody consequences for various sectors
of developed (or underdeveloped) health systems. Among the countries affected by this
economic crisis, Greece was at the center of European countries, which over the years
went into a severe recession.
Greece, at the time when the economic crisis appeared in its territories, was already
counting gaps and defects in terms of the structure of the organization and the state
systems, with the result that they stand out even more and are strengthened.
Subsequently, the reform changes that Greece underwent, weakened it to the point that it
exhausted its citizens as well.
The changes imposed on Greece in order to meet the fiscal requirements of the Eurozone,
combined with the measures it had to follow, affected various sectors of the state,
including the health sector, in order to contain and reduce costs and modernize its
administration.
More specifically, in the first chapter of this paper, the health systems are studied, in the
light of the forms and characteristics that they may have, but also of their financing, their
efficiency and effectiveness and the ways of evaluation, while in the second chapter the
xii
problems of NSS are beeing analyzed, presenting the current situation, barriers to
funding, inequalities, resource management and the efficiency and effectiveness of this
system.
The third chapter compares the NSS with the main health systems of other developed
countries and the fourth chapter presents the quantitative methodology of the present
research, as well as the results of the questionnaires for Evaluation & Satisfaction Size by
the Hellenic Health System to providers (pharmacists) and patients receiving health
services.
Finally, the fifth chapter presents the conclusions of the present research, while the last
chapter presents the proposals for the consolidation of the NSS that result from the
conclusions of the research.
