The purpose of this dissertation is to study the extroverted nature of the Greek economy, with
particular emphasis on the export activity of Greek business units, the impact of the financial
crisis of 2008, as well as to find the determinants that can strengthen export activity of the Greek
companies. The benefits of business internationalization and extroversion vary and affect both
the companies and the economies of the respective countries. Typical examples are the increase
in the competitiveness of companies and their viability. At the same time, the economic growth
of the states is achieved. In particular, Greek entrepreneurship is flooded with small and
medium enterprises that due to their size are not very competitive internationally and for this
reason show low levels of export activity. With the passing of the economic crisis, the Greek
business units were reoriented towards the strengthening of their extroverted character, as they
aimed at the international markets. After the economic crisis, therefore, the extroversion of the
Greek economy increased, but failed to reach the desired levels. The problems that held back
the export activity of the Greek economy were the low levels of competitiveness of the products
produced, the problematic situation that prevailed in the Greek business, the presence of longterm deficits in the trade balance of Greece, the low percentages of Greek companies in favor
of research and development, as well as the fact that the Greek economy has always been closed
and small. It is proposed the complete structural restructuring of the Greek economy, the
existing regulatory and institutional framework and the facilitation of the entry of companies in
financial aid programs.
