Abstract
The study of the international monetary system, the common currency and the relations that develop within it requires, on the one hand, a theoretical approach within the framework of International Political Economy based on the theory of realism and the theory of hegemonic stability, and on the other hand, it offers a tool to link the structure of the international system with international monetary relations, which are determined by a combination of political, economic and international factors. The euro, the digital euro, and its international role in the modern monetary system are put at the disposal of international relations and are decisively influenced by the structure of the new international monetary system and the balance of power within it. Thus, the resulting outcome is determined both by the competition between the three digital currency blocs (EU, US, CHINA) and by the balance of power between states.
