The effects of human activity on the degradation of the environment, primarily by burning fossil fuels, having fundamentally increased the concentration of greenhouse gases in Earth’s atmosphere, but also with the depletion of other natural resources is not something new. Some analysts believe that previously inaccessible oil and gas fields may be technically and economically accessible. The problems caused by climate change due to the melting of the Arctic ice sheet, as well as the increase in global energy consumption, are at the centre of global concern, as well as the diplomatic and economic relations that the Arctic states are developing among themselves. Τhe Arctic region shall prove critical in the sense of boosting the energy resources reserves due to its mineral wealth but also a future challenge due to the opening of new sea lanes.
