Abstract
Hospital infections have been at the epicenter of scientific, economic, social and ethical
considerations in a global level. A hospital infection is considered to be an infection
acquired in hospitals or other health care facility. Such infections have been indicated
since patients have begun to be hospitalized. Nowadays, they compose a major issue in
the public health sector of public health since they directly affect the morbidity, the
mortality, the hospitalization time and the financial cost.
In order to control hospital infections there have been established competent groups of
health scientists, whose role is to deal with them, not only the appearance, but also up to
their dispersal, through since meticulous study, control and prevention. Undoubtedly,
these groups make the efforts more effective.
Despite the progress in the technological and scientific field, the problem of the
hospital infections seems to be continually aggravated and this is due to many factors.
These causes include the increase of immunosuppressed and critically ill patients, such
as the multiple trauma patients, cancer patients or burn patients. Furthermore, the
contemporary medical techniques, such as the use of ventilators, urinary catheters and
other medical interventions comprise serious causes of hospital infections. Additionally,
the reckless use of antibiotics results in the appearance of multi-resistant bacterial strains,
which make the treatments extremely difficult.
In this research, I have investigated the phenomenon of hospital infections in general.
Health professionals were called to answer a series of questions regarding their attitude
and perception of adherence to protocols in the prevention and treatment of hospital
infections, as well as their opinion regarding the decisive factors of them.
