dc.description.abstractEN | This dissertation aims to measure the impact of broadband speed on economic growth in 20 OECD countries. The macroeconomic indicators for this study were collected from World Bank and ITU databases, except for the speed data, which were gathered from Akamai, a company that provides broadband testing and web-based network diagnostic applications data. With this, annual balanced panel data for 20 OECD countries during the period 2012-2017 were examined. The study found that the estimated coefficient of broadband speed is statistically significant. It is further shown that, for the time period under consideration, the returns from increasing speeds on GDP are positive but diminishing. The upper threshold of speed related gains is moving higher as a result of the “readiness” of the economy (individuals or firms) to make productive use of improved infrastructures through the availability of services that demand more bandwidth. | el |
