| dc.description.abstract | Είναι ευρέως αποδεκτό ότι η ναυτιλιακή δραστηριότητα χαρακτηρίζεται από διεθνή
χαρακτήρα, συμφέροντα και επικινδυνότητα. Δια μέσω θαλάσσης διακινείται περίπου
το 90 % του παγκόσμιου εμπορίου και μεταφορών, επομένως γίνεται αμέσως
αντιληπτή η ιδιαιτερότητα του κλάδου. Ο χαρακτηρισμός επικίνδυνη ακούγεται
εντονότερα με την πάροδο των χρόνων λόγω του σημαντικού αριθμού ρυπογόνων και
ζημιογόνων ατυχημάτων τόσο για το περιβάλλον, όσο και για την ανθρώπινη ζωή. Σε
αυτή την εργασία γίνεται μελέτη με γνώμονα την ασφάλεια και την ποιότητα που
αναζητείται στον κλάδο και πιο συγκεκριμένα από τους ναυλωτές-πετρελαϊκές
εταιρείες, που θέτουν βάσει θεσμικού πλαισίου τα υψηλότερα δυνατά πρότυπα. Για να
επιτύχουν το έργο τους πραγματοποιούν επιθεωρήσεις και ελέγχους για την αξιοπλοΐα
και λειτουργική απόδοση του εκάστοτε σκάφους. Σε μια από κοινού προσπάθεια με
διεθνείς και περιφερειακούς οργανισμούς για την κατοχύρωση και συνεχή βελτίωση
σχετικών συμβάσεων και κανονισμών. Ιδανικό παράδειγμα ανάλυσης στην εργασία
αυτή, αποτελεί ο κολοσσός Exxon Mobil. | el |

| dc.description.abstractEN | According to various authors and organizations, it is widely accepted that; “Shipping
is perhaps the most international of all world’s great industries and one of the most
dangerous”. Focusing on this statement, maritime industry is quite essential because it
covers approximately 90% of the international trade.
On the course of the years, many incidents occurred into the sea and obviously caused
implications on both the environment and humanity. This dissertation, initially,
examines the maritime safety as well as the quality that is noticed at the sector and
especially the charterers-oil companies look for. To accomplish their task, they carry
out inspections and investigations on tankers’ fleet.
Both international and regional organizations play a crucial role in order to constantly
upgrade the relevant agreements and regulations.
At the last part of this thesis, the author illustrates the case study of Exxon Mobil
