The purpose of the present work deals with the role of communication in the interpersonal relationships between a physician and a patient during the therapeutic act and aims to emphasize the importance of communication which creates a therapeutic relationship between the physician and the patient.
It is known that communication is absolutely connected with the nature of the person and therefore the communication between the doctor and the patient is very important and is an element of determining the level of quality of the health care. However, communication is not given and is subject to many constraints and difficulties that when they occur, have a direct effect on the patient's adaptation to the therapeutic requirements. Particular weight is given to the importance and role of empathy as a factor in improving the therapeutic relationship, patient satisfaction and compliance with medical guidelines.
There are many researches that confirm the important role of communication and empathy in the relationship between a doctor and a patient. In the second part of the study, quantitative research was carried out using a questionnaire to investigate the relationship between physician and patient in psychiatric clinics. Their analysis allowed us to assess the degree of patient satisfaction with the quality of communication with their physician in Greek psychiatric clinics.
