Abstract

This diploma thesis deals with the aspects of the freight centers in Greece and Europe and how Greek freight forward companies can be transformed into integrated logistics centers, offering a complete package of services. In the Greek logistics market, the majority of intermodal companies usually carry out specific services such as packaging and freight transport, while other activities such as storages and distribution processes are outsourced to 3PL (Third party logistics) companies. The European logistics market does not operate in the same way because, in addition to its efficient infrastructure system, the majority of European logistics companies undertake all services, from loading is in the exporter's factory to the delivery procedure in the importer's premises . In this way the shipment of the loads takes place in a short time and more safely. It should be added that this thesis, apart from the basic analysis of the European Logistics Centers and the Greek freight Centers, was written to give ideas and solutions to the freight forwarding companies of our country, in order to increase their competitors . The last chapter is followed by a survey conducted in freight companies based and operating in our country. Through this research, we can draw some concrete answers that have been given to understand how the logistics industry operates in Greece, and what are the ways to be followed in order to allow Greek freight companies to turn into standard integrated centers logistics.
