Abstract

This paper analyzes the importance of protecting the marine environment from the Ship-generated waste and sewage management processes at ports. Ports are the receiving point of waste and sewage from ships and have part of their responsibility for collecting and managing them. In accordance with the guidelines laid down by European and national law, the framework for the collection and management of ship-generated waste is based on the International MARPOL 73/78 Convention and has been incorporated into European law by the EU Directive 2000/59 and the National Law from 8111.41 / 09 / 2009 in compliance with EC Directive 2007/71. The aim of the work is to present the legal frameworks, good practices of the European Union regarding the responsibilities of the ports, their compliance with them and the position of Greece.
