Priceless but and given is simultaneously considered one of the five human senses the sight. The sight gives in the person and in the animals the possibility of conceiving the form of objects, the alternation of movements and distances, as well as the differentiation of colours of exterior world. It is logical and next to be considered the most gentle of all senses, the queen of all senses. It has been calculated that 80% of the information we receive daily is obtained from the visual system, which is often converted into a vulnerable mechanism with unknown-unexpected consequences both physical (reduced vision, blindness) and mental.
With the term blindness we mean the absolute loss of sense of light from the person. In the unfavourable situation of blindness they have devolved roughly 38 millions blinds to the world from that the 75% reside in Africa and Asia. In Greece, they are calculated around in the 21.000 blinds. (roughly his 1% the total population).
Contrary to other states in Greece each person that faces serious problem of sight experiences various alternating situations as marginalisation, loneliness, isolation while he should he rehabilitates her life/in the new data. More concretely, the persons that have partial or total blindness they have to organize their lives on the basis of a realistic plan based on their particular potential and needs. The role of society in this effort is significant, although it has been rather passive so far. Active social role means knowledge, participation and acceptance of diversity, not exclusion. Especially the socialization of adolescents with blindness is hampered by difficulties
in adapting to their workplace. However, the state may take additional - more effective - measures for the smooth integration of teen-blind people into society. The contribution of the present work is to awaken the health scientists on the issue of blindness and to train them in this regard. The purpose of this research is to assess the health-related quality of life of individuals with impairment as assessed using the EQ-5D questionnaire. Research objectives also include highlighting those factors that affect the quality of life of visually impaired people.
The results of the analysis indicate that the existence of Institutions aiming at providing support to this deprived population can lead to an improvement in their quality of life and consequently the establishment of such Institutions could be viewed as an important social policy goal.
