The increasing consumption of resources and the generation of waste from single-use products intensify environmental pressures, particularly when products rely on materials with high energy and carbon intensity. This thesis comparatively examines options for reducing the environmental footprint of products that were widely used during the COVID-19 period and continue to be used in healthcare and everyday applications. Using Ansys Granta EduPack and its Eco Audit tool, alternative scenarios were assessed for FFP2 masks, surgical face masks and antiseptic wipes. The analysis considered alternative material compositions based on banana, flax, kenaf, jute, sugarcane and PET, the effect of packaging, transport distances of 150, 330 and 2,395 km, and, for PET scenarios, alternative end-of-life strategies. The main comparison indicators were total energy demand (MJ) and CO₂ emissions (kg). The results indicate that, within the examined models, the material stage is generally the dominant contributor to the environmental footprint. Banana fiber showed the lowest Energy and CO₂ values among the natural materials compared, while flax, kenaf and sugarcane exhibited different trade-offs depending on the indicator. In the PET scenarios, the selected end-of-life strategy substantially affected the net result, with reuse and remanufacturing showing lower burdens than landfill. Longer transport distances also increased the footprint, although in most cases they did not change the basic ranking of the materials.el
