This postgraduate thesis created under the cooperation of the department of Digital Security Systems University of Piraeus and the Greek Armed Forces.
It focuses on the establishment and development of a secure electronic virtual learning and evaluation platform. The platform is the Moodle (Modular Object Oriented Developmental Learning Environment). It is a free software package – an open source Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). Using this platform a Course Management System (CMS) was developed and a series of courses including trainees' assessment process was added. In particular, it describes the complete Guide - Installation Manual of e-learning platform Moodle v.2.9.2.
Then, a series of courses were developed in form of modules, with subject the Network Security. The purpose and the subject of each course is presented while it is described the self-evaluation process and final evaluation of learners but also of the educational process.
The current document is part of a more comprehensive work with main objective the development of distance learning courses and evaluation of the Army Staff on issues regarding computer security. In addition, the aim is financial savings by reducing the training cost.
