Abstract

Headache is one of the most common causes that make patients visit their doctor. Headache may just be a symptom that affects patients’ functionality and quality of life (primary headache) or it could be a symptom of a morbid situation, extremely dangerous for patient’s life (secondary headache). The World Health Organization includes headaches in the first 20 illnesses in the world, which cause a real problem of disability, as they want to emphasize their meaning in patients’ daily routine and quality of life. It is considered that in our country more than 1.000.000 people at the age of 20-50, suffer from headaches, while in USA almost 28.000.000 people, at the age of 12 or older, suffer from migraine. We have been provided our data from the hospital Evaggelismos in Athens. We had 111 questionnaires from patients who suffer from primary headaches. The questionnaires included demographic information and 7 scales, which count patients’ anxiety, depression, insomnia, sleepiness, addictive behavior, effects in their daily routine and quality of life. The aim of this paperwork is to explore which of the factors (age, gender, work and diagnosis) affect the mental health (anxiety and depression), the sleep and the quality of life of people who suffer from headaches. In first place, we used some descriptive statistical methods, in order to get a general idea of our data. Afterwards, we used the Analysis of Variance (Anova) method and the Logistic Regression method and we compared the results.
