The Greek ferry network, as the main pillar of the island transport system, plays an extremely important role in the social and economic cohesion of our country. The effective planning of this network on the basis of the peculiar geography of the Greek islands, the real connectivity needs, but also the current economic environment with the limited financial budget, composes a complicated and multifactorial problem. In particular, for "small" islands that problem tends to be more obvious and crucial.
Inside the above context, this thesis attempts to gather all elements of the problem (institutional, financial, transportation, statistics), to configure the data of the public service ferry transportation and to propose a package of interferences that could improve the supply system of ferry services in our country both in institutional terms and in terms of fiscal cost-transportation efficiency.
