The Greek maritime spirit and dynamic entrepreneurship are the components of the
success of the mercantile shipping in our country. Our nation’s rich nautical tradition
has proved that the Greeks are able to stand in front of the world’s merchant challenges,
to contribute to the uplift of Greek economy and to the increase in jobs at sea and on
land, as well as to accomplish the remarkable Greek presence before the global fora and
organisations. The venture is difficult due to the nature of the maritime environment
that is capital intensive and therefore the business risk at this juncture is undecided.
The public administration, together with the competent bodies who constitute and
assist it, aims not only to provide the institutional framework for action of private
initiative, but also to cope with issues of concern of the shipping community with the
common purpose focused on the promotion of the Greek mercantile shipping. For the
benefit of the companies, of the society and of the State in general. The presence of the
State is crucial, suffice it to be valued as positive synergy.
