Abstract

The aim of this paper is to study the effect of economical crisis on the road freight transport in Greece. At first, it was considered necessary the reference to the analysis of the worldwide financial crisis and the debt crisis in Greece. In addition to this, an analysis in road freight transport in Greece it is carried out. At first, analyze the categories of vehicles. In this paper, is also referred how much important is the normal route and development of the road freight transport on the economy of a country. For that reason, an impulse was given to Greece through the structural reform of 2010 when the entry obstacles of the market are removed and new conditions are created which will permit its further development. However, the effect of economic crisis did not allow the achievement of the expected results of the structural reform. Subsequently, the determined factors of the demand of road freight transport are examined and how they were affected by the economical crisis of Greece as well. In addition to this, the major of the functional costs of a lorry are recorded and the extremely rapid effect of them by the economical crisis. At the end, an econometric test is conducted as far as the request of the road freight transport is concerned. The results that came of the existing sample which was used, confirmed that the request of the road freight transport in Greece is affected only by the rise of the gross domestic product of our country. More specifically in case GDP is increased by one billion Euros, the demand of road freight transports would be increased by 90,74 million tonokilometers. On the contrary, the national level of oil prices will not affect the demand of road freight transport in Greece.
