This thesis outlines an attempt for a detailed and accurate description of cruise, as
one of the tourist sectors. Since 19th century up to present day, cruise has been for
people a common outlet of filling their free time as well as an industry in which
Greece participates actively. Furthermore OLP, and the rest of Greek cruise ports
are examined specifically in accordance with the exiting competition among the
Mediterranean ports. The methodology, which has been followed was the analysis of
large cruise Ports, regarding the characteristics which make them competitive and
considerable. Moreover, major associations of Mediterranean Ports and how these
affect the sector of cruise, are analyzed as well as the overall presence of Greek ports.
In addition, a detailed analysis of Piraeus Port Authority΄s policy regarding to the
cruise domain is attempted. Finally, a reference is made to the future of Greek cruise
as well as a general summary of its perspectives.
