Abstract

This dissertation aims to examine the correlation between FDI and Institutions. More specifically, the current thesis consists of four chapters. The first chapter inspects some basic concepts of FDI: a) the definition of FDI, b) the forms and types of FDI, c) the main factors attracting FDI and d) the benefits and drawbacks of FDI, are all analyzed. In the second chapter there is a detailed reference to the Institutions, which constitute one of the main contributors to FDI attraction. Beyond the analysis of the institutions concept, there is an extensive focus on the indicators measuring the institutions quality such as political stability and absence of violence-terrorism, Participation and Transparency, Governance efficiency, Rule of Law, Corruption control and Quality of Governmental regulations. In addition, the third chapter presents the correlation between the above indicators and FDI. Finally, in the fourth chapter which is the practical piece of our work, we tried to examine the association between the state governance indicators and FDI for 24 European Union member states for the period from 1996 to 2013, using the ‘Eviews’ statistical package.
