This dissertation describes thoroughly the Network-Centric management and organization model and explores the adoption of this model by Container Liner Operators / CLOs.
Initially, it’s introduced the historical co-evolution of global maritime transport and politico-economic systems with the current technological innovations.
Then, it’s determined the structural characteristics of the container shipping market (general characteristics, degree of concentration, horizontal-vertical integration), developed the theoretical background of this model and its adaptation to the CLOs.
Then, it’s presented the results of the survey - relating to the registration and classification of the existing net-centric services - which conducted on the websites of twenty (20) largest CLOs. Moreover, using the results of α case study of Maerskline, it’s described and evaluated the strategy of network - centricity adoption.
Finally, it’s pointed out the adoption’s barriers of this model and it’s concluded that the conditions are now mature for universal adoption of network – centricity, since the international and government agencies actively contribute to the removal of these barriers.
