For the last 30,000 years, puppetry has been considered as one form of art and more accurately as the most ancient form of theatre or performance, which has been developed in the whole wide world. This thesis attempts to combine the benefits of both the puppet theatre and the integration of new technologies in the learning process and especially in preschool education.
Although it is mostly used in theme parks, live theatre performances and film or television productions, digital puppetry is hardly used in the field of education. Our aim is to examine digital puppetry techniques and to search out the ways for an effective integration to the educational process via the appropriate instructions that will facilitate the creation of a performance that will utilize these techniques.
In order to study and inspect this purpose, a case study was carried out. More specifically, an educational intervention was designed, implemented and evaluated so that kindergarten students would develop social skills. This intervention uses the techniques of digital puppetry, the proposed methodology for the creation of a performance and the teaching model “Role Playing”. In particular, two educational scenarios were created. Having conducted a thorough search and comparison of the most appropriate tools, those scenarios include activities that comprise various software, computer programs and applications for tablet and mobile devices, associated with digital puppetry.
Last but not least, observation and rubrics have been used in order to collect data, while the results and the findings of the case study have been conducted and analyzed.
