This thesis aims to present the framework in which a marine protected area is included. At the end was presented the adaptation of indicators for the National Marine Park of Zakynthos, which they used as a method of evaluating the effectiveness of management of marine protected area.
At first, the international experience of the marine parks, on global and European level was recorded. Then became a reference in marine parks in Greece and in legislation framework. Also, inputs and outputs identified for a marine protected area and how they interact, giving us results for the ecosystem and for the welfare of the local community.
Then chosen as example the National Marine Park of Zakynthos, as it covers the international conventions and legislative frameworks for a protected area. Thus, after the information for the park, the indicators examined, where with the help of them the assessment of the management plan can be made.
