The management of supply chains is considered for decades one of the most important functions of any business. The modern practice of larger firms is based on three main actions which are social responsibility , environmental protection and economic sustainability. The benefits of these actions help companies to reduce supply costs , to be socially and environmentally responsible and gain new customers. Large organizations such as the OECD, the GRI and ISO have created standards for assessment of sustainability of supply chains by offering companies tools for self-assessment and improvement of their performance on critical KPIs. In this paper we will refer to the most recent actions of major companies and the evaluation of a company according to the standard of the GRI.
