Abstract

In recent years there has been a growing interest in the use and development of Widgets. The Widgets are small applications that have the ability to either integrate and operate into a website or integrate and operate on a personal computer or mobile device. As a result of this growing trend of use and application development in the form of Widgets is respectively equal the use and development in the field of applications for education using educational Widgets or using Widgets as a tool for education. The existence of online libraries for educational Widgets is particularly important as the existence of web applications enables users to instantly search, retrieve, share and store educational Widgets upon their educational needs. The present study concerns the theoretical background for the Widgets and particularly the use and role of Widgets in education. Subsequently, further examines the existing technologies for development and storage for Widgets, their specifications and their disposal, while emphasis is given to the study of existing online libraries that contain Widgets. The study and the comparisons that were made among online libraries leaded to the proposal for the design and further the development of an online educational library that contains educational Widgets.
