This study aims to full compliance of all ports under the authority of L.T. N. Korinthias, means the port of Korinthos, Kiato, and also other fishing shelters, with the European and Greek legislation, about the port reception facilities for ship-generated waste and cargo residues.
The ultimate goal is the enhancing the protection of the marine environment, in order to reduce the discharges of ship-generated waste and cargo residues into the sea, especially illegal discharges, from ships using the above ports, by improving the availability and use of port reception facilities for ship-generated waste and cargo residues.
The conclusions and the suggestions that will result from the present study, can be applied to all ships, including fishing vessels and recreational craft, irrespective of their flag, calling at, or operating within, a port of a Member State, with the exception of any warship, naval auxiliary or other ship owned or operated by a State and used, for the time being, only on government non-commercial service.
