The rapid development of information technology in recent years has resulted in a change in the daily lives of people by making significant changes in many sectors of the economy and society. One of those sectors in which technological developments significantly impacted is that of tourism and especially the hotel business. In this context it seems very interesting and important to examine the possibilities that technology provides in the way they operate, run and evolve the hotel business in Greece and the world.
Through this study recorded and analyzed the impact of IT in the lodging industry in Greece. For better performance and understanding of concepts and data, the study is divided into two parts. In the first part, which is the theoretical part, a reference to the basic concepts of marketing and strategy, while recorded and variables of information technology in the hospitality industry. In the second part, which is the practical part of the study, we describe, through the analysis of a case of a hotel (Kavos), small in size, the island of Naxos on the strategy pursued and how utilizes information systems to modernize and better organization.
In the first chapter of the study is a brief but necessary basic concepts for the hotel, as well as the concepts of strategy and marketing, in the hotel industry. Moreover, petitioner and relationship the account sector in Greece with the most useful tool that is the internet.
The second chapter presented and analyzed the electronics systems used in hotels, with reference to computerization, i.e. in hardware, in software and in the central reservation system they use. Also in this chapter are examined and strategies impacts of new technologies in the hospitality industry and presenting the advantages and disadvantages, risks and threats entailed, as well as trends that may occur in the near future.
The third and fourth chapter of the study, the practical part, they are of great interest, and includes an examination of the design of the hotel Kavos in Naxos. Through this analysis demonstrated the great importance of the use of IT in the organization, the functioning and promote consideration hotel unit, and beyond. Finally, the fifth chapter presents the conclusions of the study and proposes some solutions for the field of marketing of hotel business under consideration, in order for the company to cope with the difficulties presented to stand up to the challenge and develop a strategy that is in line with the developments in new technologies.
