The human-computer interaction can nowadays be accomplished by the movements of the human body, which are tracked by a digital camera, without the mediation of other input devices. This master thesis describes the motion detection technology, studying its benefits and giving examples of applications that make use of this technology. Furthermore, it describes the design pro-cess, the development and the evaluation of the multimedia application "Discovering Greek mythology through movement", an application that was based on motion detection technologies. The objective was to create an attractive material and a modern, methodical teaching ap-proach with the active participation of students in the classroom. The chosen subject was History, in the thematic unity of Greek mythology, which is part of the Greek primary education curriculum. The multimedia application is mainly addressed to third grade stu-dents of Primary School. The selection of the content was based on the curriculum of the Ministry of Lifelong Learning and Religious Affairs, with a cross-thematic approach to the object.
