The present study has tried to investigate the relation between demographic factors and attitudes of personnel of a general hospital in Athens, Greece, towards the use of information and communication technologies (ICT), concerning their needs at work. The purpose of the study was to evaluate possible differences in the factors the workers behaved (their emotions- as “influences”, beliefs- as “knowledge”, intentions- impulse- as “behavior” and “control” over the use of a personal computer) with regard to parameters concerning: the “gender”, “age”, “family situation”, “number of children”, “level of education”, “kind of studies”, “year of first graduation”, “graduation from another school” and the “different kind of school”, “specialty in work field”, “field of work at the hospital”, “permanence at work”, “years of experience”, “category of worker”, “working at a position of high duty”, “demand on use of a computer for work”, “use a computer at work”, “willingness to use a computer at work”, “willingness to facilitate the task of work through the use of computer at work”, “view of knowledge and use of ICT”, “statement of possession and kind of certification of knowledge of ICT” and “use a P/C at home”. Data were collected from a speciment of people that comprised of 223 workers at the hospital (76 men and 147 women), aged 39 ± 19, belonging to the personnel of the General Hospital in Nikaia “Saint Pantelaiemon” with one measuring. As instruments of measurements were used: 1) Questionnaire of demographic elements and 2) Questionnaire “16-19 Computer Attitude’s Scale” [Selwyn (1997), Αntoniou et al, (2006)] as they were adjusted to fit the needs of the study. The results of the survey showed that there were statistically significant differences between the factors “influence”, “knowledge”, “behavior” and “control” concerning the factors “specialty in work field”, “field of work at the hospital”, “willingness to use a computer at work”, “willingness to facilitate the task of work through the use of computer at work”, and “use a P/C at home”. Furthermore there were statistically significant differences to the three of the four factors concerning the attitudes having to do with the “gender”, “the use a of computer at work”, “the statement of possession and kind of certification of knowledge of ICT”, “the level of education”, and the “category a worker belongs” and finally the factors “influence” and “control” indicated statistically significant difference in accordance to the factors “family situation” and “the year of first graduation” respectively. The results of the study indicated that the workers that use a P/C showed more positive attitudes towards new technologies, possibly due to the discovery of their contribution to the facilitation of their work (through a PC) showing that new workers are more familiarized with new technologies as well as more complex specialties consider the use of a P/C as important aid to forward their work in contrast to older workers and workers receiving primary education.
