Osteoporosis is a metabolic disease that is characterized by low bone mass and micro architectural deterioration of bone tissue with a subsequent increase in bone fragility and susceptibility to fracture. A variety of agents are available for the treatment of osteoporosis. The evidence for their efficacy and their cost - effectiveness is examined and focused on alendronate, risendronate, raloxifene and teriparatide.
