Management and administration of ergotherapeutic services
View/ Open
Abstract
Training and knowledge of management, organisation and the basic principles of administration related to ergotherapy leads to a better quality of ergotherapeutic services offered by ergotherapists. Ergotherapeutic intervention in dementia patients, health services and cost of dementia, as well as user choices concerning care management for dementia patients constitute basic issues of speculation and research. Ergotherapy could improve the everyday functioning, the social participation and the well - being of people suffering from dementia who remain in the community and also reinforce the management ability of the basic care - givers. The latter, along with the greater autonomy of the patients, results in lower indirect cost of nursing, lower cost of other social or medicare services and postpones hospitalisation. The measurement of efficiency and effectiveness of ergotherapeutic intervention in dementia is an essential mean for the evaluation of the method. Ergotherapy in the community is an effective non pharmaceutical therapy for aged people with dementia and their care - givers. It not only improves the everyday functioning of these patients and the management ability of their care - givers, but it also improves the quality of life, the mood and the health condition of both groups. These are considered as the most important results of research on dementia.
