Abstract
This study refers to the rehabilitation program put into practice by the Athens Children's Sanatorium of Chronic Disorders for mentally retarded children. It outlines the procedures followed with reference to both staff and patient instruction, during the stages of preparation, and later rehabilitation into the community by means of hostels or special care accommodation. In the research carried out the special care staffs were questioned in relation to the training given at the Sanatorium. The intervention group in the primary stage, followed by the many branched team and the scientific team in charge through instructing proceedings such as stimulation and guidance counseling, the education and the application in order to accomplish the completion of the rehabilitation program. Their duties and their new role managed to improve through the instruction, concerning both the level of knowledge and the quality of working conditions.
