The findings presented in this dissertation, which are the result of research in the existing bibliography on drug addiction, online information and observation in the author's working environment, point out the importance of the role that therapeutic communities play in dealing with this problem. According to research which took place abroad as well as in Greece, the role of therapeutic communities is stressed out as one of the most effective therapeutical approaches in drug addiction, because they target, not only to rehabilitate from drugs but also to motivate their members to adopt a new way of life and re-enter the society.
