This thesis deals with the modern management framework in order to address marine pollution from shipping and especially ships. The main goal is to highlight the problem of pollution from the perspective of maritime activity, and the modern ways / methods / practices that can be used in. To achieve this, the present work is divided into four main Chapters witch actually are the same with the respective axes approach of the study. In Chapter 1 and 2 general and specific qualitative and quantitative data for marine pollution are presented separating those cases related to accidental and operational pollution. Chapter 3 concentrates on the presentation and analysis of the ways to prevent and avoid accidental and operational pollution, while the last chapter (Chapter 4) presents the market based methods to avoid marine pollution. In a constantly changing environment of maritime development, the human factor has the main role in protecting the marine environment from marine accidents. Therefore, a modern management framework to deal with marine pollution should be based primarily on investments in staff training, so in conjunction with the application of international agreements / regulations and the adoption of modern technological practices leads to achieve maximum effect.
