Health services constitute a market where every single investment move should be performed with great caution. In Greece the private sector of medical care occupies a large part of the market, as far as primary and secondary care is concerned and is facing constant rise. Endocrinology is the branch of medicine that is involved in the diagnosis and cure of the endocrine system, as well as the structure and function of the glands. In this specific branch of medicine there is a special need to provide the appropriate services, being a branch that occupies a particular position in medical care services, which in hand creates a need to create specialized centers, called endocrine medical centers. The present work presents an in depth view of those parameters and conditions (legal, organizational, operational and financial) that are required, in order for the investment in an endocrinology center to be judged as advantageous and for its operation to be seen as viable. The endocrinology medical center is organized in specialized units and is manned by specialized personnel. It is a center where patients may take physical exams (in vivo) and clinical tests (in vitro). The use of assumptions and the processing of financial data can easily prove the maturity and profitability of an investment in such center, thus creating an optimism regarding other investments in private specialized medical centers. Investments in specialized medical centers of this sort could provide, in the immediate future, both the patients and society with secure clinics and laboratory exams focused on quality, as well as new elements in disease prevention services.
