This research presents the current situation of Greece in the field of e-health, particularly as regards in strategies, policies, plans and actions. For this reason the relative literature and sources in the web have been searched and overviewed. Further info has been received from the various authorities, dealing with e-health in our country. Specifically, in-depth in-situ interviews have been taken from experts in the field. The scope of the interviews has been to obtain detailed info that probably is not covered from the documents that have been reviewed. The results of the research indicate that as regards e-health is quiet behind other member states of the European Union (EU). The absence of a long-term strategy, the low priority that informatics have for the Greek authorities, the absence of a specific institution in charge for e-health, the diffusion of responsibilities taken, the absence of a regulatory and legal framework, the complexity of interests stakeholders involved in the field, the immaturity of the private sector in health informatics, and the low ranking position of Greece versus other EU states in the development of the Information and Communications Technology, are the main reason for Greece lag. The development of an institution responsible for e-health matters, as well as the development of a national strategy, are proposed. Additionally, increased national funds are required. Finally, it is suggested that there is need for realistic planning and financing of the relative projects. Motivation and training of all staff working in health organizations constitute additional requirements for the successful implementation of such systems.
