basic principles of digital image, computer vision and motion detection's ability, in order to be understood by the average reader. The second chapter makes extensive reference to the software used during the preparation of this thesis (Motion), giving information about the installation, operation and basic configuration. In the following chapters, (three, four and five) advanced settings and customization are taking place to exploit the full potential of Motion and adapt to the needs of this thesis. Specifically, in the third chapter, the reader can find all the custom settings for motion detection in addition to some useful features like alarms by electronic means (import database, e-mail message, text message SMS), while the fourth chapter is a presentation of the basic and the advanced user's graphics communication interface, remote access and management. The fifth chapter presents the design and implementation of the attached intelligent features in a fully managed interface by the system's operator in order to minimize or even avoid false alarms, while having flexibility and adaptability to use in several different video surveillance scenarios. Finally, the sixth chapter presents the findings, highlights the usefulness of all the changes which have been made and suggests extensions and applications in other industries. A link, therefore, undertaken with many details in the following chapters is able to present the whole process and the means used to adapt the software Motion to ensure privacy and optimization in many points that are not supported in the basic version. Furthermore, it consists on the application in healthcare's sector as well as the user friendliness.
