Fuel is the single largest annual cost for shipping operators and for that purpose Shipping companies have a motive in reducing their ship's fuel consumption in order to save millions of dollars. Bunker prices have risen to six hundred dollars per metric ton since 2007 and shipping industry strives to reduce fuel consumption while attaining its goals for profit. In this thesis, we provide the most used fuel saving techniques, operators and shipowners use, in order to reduce fuel consumption while lowering gas emissions.
