The ballast water carried by the vessels is considered as an important factor for the stability of the ship in the surface of the water, however it contains a host of invasive organisms which while entering the new ecosystems during the process of deballasting, they are able to provoke irreversible upheavals. In the aspect of IMO, the organization proceed by issuing the Convention for the management of the ballast water, according to which specific requirements are opted by the installation of ballast water treatment systems on board the vessels. In spite of, the member states face the convention with curiousness, as such an investment is highly exorbitant for the shipping companies as well as the perspective and effectiveness of such a facility could possibly be regarded as uncertain in a the first place.
