In the last ten years there is a great development in cruise sector. This has helped a lot Greek tourism with a spectacular increase in approaches to ports (according to data from the Pireus Port Authority scheduled for 2011 amounted to 962 cruise ships over 823 in 2010, up 19%). In addition, around 60% of cruise passengers choose to follow tour programs in Athens and this is why this industry is so challenging the last decade. This was the base to make the following survey. The aim therefore of this research is to examine the selection criteria that consumers use in order to make the final decision of cruising instead follow a different type of holiday. What do consumers think about cruising before they decide to go cruising? What are the factors that influence the attractiveness of the cruise sector? These are the questions that will be answered in this thesis. Of course, all this were focused on the Greek reality. The dissertation was based on similar qualitative studies done in other areas. The surveys have found, through interviews, that several factors are used as cruising selection criteria. Goal of this thesis is to sum all these factors in all corresponding surveys and quantify them so as to find out which of them are really important for making the final decision. For the implementation of this questionnaires were given to passengers cruise ships approaching the port of Piraeus during the months of March and April. The answers were analyzed using SPSS program and Excel in order to reach the right conclusions.
