The pure economic conditions limit the funding of new technology. At the same time, environmental awareness is rising. Motivated by the economic slowdown, increasing fuel prices and global warming, the key to business sustainability is the «green economy» investments that create «green jobs» and help protect the environment. The ecological dimension of maritime transport can provide a solution, only if ships use exclusively or partially renewable energy. Thus, shipping sector should invest in «green business», while earning three fronts, namely the three elements of sustainability: environment, economy, work.
