One of the most crucial issues raised in European Union conference bodies and tantalizes at the same time, the International Maritme Organization is the contribution of Universal Merchant Shipping to CO2. The International Maritime Organization, through the frames and the common principles which stem from the collective legislation organs, boosts significantly the formulation of new practices and experiences towards the harmonization of the International Maritime Organization with the standards defined for the reduction of gas emission. Therefore, what is going to be analyzed, is the general legislation frame of the gas emission issue, what kinds of methodologies are followed based on the enacted rules and principles, and what the predictions are in length of time. All these things are considered in relation to Maritime, which unfortunately has not yet created a defining institutional action for the issue of gas emission, even though there is a clear intention from the Maritime Community to contribute to this subject. What is presented in this δdiploma thesis, then, is the contribution of the Universal Merchant Shipping to CO2 through the defined frames, and the measures taken towards this action.
