particularly approach it's specialized components, which present special interest and value to the modern development of sea transport. In this context, special focus will be given to the analysis of the concepts of navigational safety and environmental protection. These concepts are directly linked to the existence of the institution of classification societies but also to the marine insurance, which ensure the functionality and effectiveness, not only in the sector of navigational safety but also in the sector of the protection of the marine environment. A basic part of this thesis will be the recording and analysis of the relevant institutional framework while in the same time it will be attempted to critically evaluate it as well as to derive relevant conclusions and proposals.
